The Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops, is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and arguably the most famous pyramid in Egypt. It was built as a tomb for the Pharaoh Khufu during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, around 2560 BC. The pyramid stands at an impressive height of 146.6 meters (481 feet) and was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. The construction of the Great Pyramid is a testament to the advanced engineering skills of the ancient Egyptians. It is estimated that the pyramid was built using over 2.3 million blocks of limestone, each weighing between 2.5 to 15 tons. The precision with which the blocks were cut and placed together is truly remarkable, with the sides of the pyramid aligning almost perfectly with the cardinal points of the compass. Inside the Great Pyramid, there are three main chambers: the King's Chamber, the Queen's Chamber, and the Subterranean Chamber. The King's Chamber houses a sarcophagus that was believed to hold the remains of Khufu, although no mummy has ever been found inside the pyramid. The purpose and construction techniques of the pyramid continue to be a subject of debate among historians and archeologists. The Great Pyramid of Giza remains a symbol of the power and grandeur of ancient Egypt. Its imposing presence on the Giza plateau continues to captivate visitors from around the world, making it one of the most iconic landmarks in human history.
